The major of Social Work was established in 2003,as a division of the School of Public Administration. From June 2007 onward, it was re-arranged to subordinate to the School of Ethnology and Sociology. In 2011, the first Mongolian-teaching class was enrolled. Then, in July 2014,the Department of Social Work was established within the School of Ethnology and Sociology. From 2015 onward, the department was allowed to recruit Master of Social Work (MSW)degree student.
The academic staffs of the department are all keen on adopting diversified teaching methods to inspire students, such as case system, social practice, and scene simulation. The aim of the department is to combine the particularities of the ethnic autonomous region with our teaching and research in order to develop Chinese-Mongolian versatile professionals with comprehensive sociological knowledge to apply social work and social welfare into minorities’ traditional cultures.
The Department of Social Work is composed of 11 academic staffs, including 3 associate professors and 8 lecturers. Moreover, within whom, 9 of them have doctor's degree. All the teachers graduated from the most influential universities all over the world. Cooperating with the Department of Civil Administration of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, the department was built as a professional training and study foundation with 11 major practice and teaching bases and a professional laboratory. The Mongolian-teaching class focuses on developing social work professionals within the ethnic autonomous region.
During the period of the 13th Five-year plan, the major of social work will steadily evolve series investigations and researches on ethnic social work and pastoral social welfare in order to play the role of major think tank to support the practice of social security and welfare. As a result, it is expected to improve people's livelihood in northern ethnic autonomous regions of China.
